Since 1886, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club has been celebrating and perpetuating Groundhog Day and the Legend of Punxsutawney Phil every February 2nd and throughout the entire year. The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, Inc. is a 501 C3 organization with 13 local dignitaries currently serving as the board of directors known as The Inner Circle. The primary purpose and mission of The Inner Circle is to maintain and perpetuate Groundhog Day and the Legend of Punxsutawney Phil. Thousands of tourists descend on Gobbler’s Knob each February 2nd to participate in a piece of legendary Pennsylvanian history, the prognostication of the world famous Punxsutawney Phil.
Aside from Groundhog Day, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club hosts many other events throughout the year to promote Phil and the region in general. Gobbler’s Knob has many visitors each day throughout the year that come to the area to see where everything takes place.
The Groundhog Club is also increasing the number of events it has each year. For instance, some other events are: A Day at the Knob, Hogtoberfest, Annual Groundhog Club Picnic & Phil Phest, Gobbler’s Knob Wine Festival, Phil’s Trick or Trot 5K, Elderly Care Gift Drive, Phil’s Holiday Bash, and many more!
The Groundhog Club does not plan, run, or fundraise for the annual Groundhog Festival or the Festival In The Park. These summertime festivals are run and controlled by separate organizations and their separate fundraising efforts.
